New Bern, NC

Bryce was off work yesterday so we decided to check out New Bern, NC which is a couple hours to the east of Raleigh.

The drive was rather boring but we arrived and drove through the historic area along the River Neuse (pronounced "noose"). Saw some gorgeous historic homes, walked down the main section of town where we saw the birthplace of Pepsicola.

We quickly found that coming on a Sunday was a bad idea. Everything, everything was closed. Lots of really cute shops I would have liked to have seen but couldn't. So we decided to check out the governor's mansion called Tryon Palace. Tickets were a bit steep but we did it anyway because we didn't want to go home so soon. Turned out to be pretty interesting.

We then ate dinner at a seafood place called Captian Ratty's on the main drag then headed home for the day.

All in all it was a good day but we will definitely go back in the summer and it will definitely be on a Saturday.
